80% Engagement, ⅕ click rates, a higher value than email with our event bot at Ebisu Beer Festival

Sapporo Breweries, Ltd.

At the 10th Ebisu Beer Festival 2018, held at Ebisu Gardens Place from September 21 to 24, 2018, we used CraftChat to engage with our customers at the event. We also wanted to explore how chatbots would eventually change the way conferences and events gather leads and share information.

We engaged with our beer fans using CraftChat Bot.

—The Ebisu Beer Festival is a large-scale beer festival held in Ebisu, the birthplace of Yebisu beer, and I also visited Ebisu, where you can relax and enjoy delicious beer and food. Please tell us about the project?

The Ebisu Beer Festival is a beer festival that started in 2009 with the intention to promote Japanese beer culture and also showing gratitude to our customers and fans who helped us grow Ebisu beer. At this event, we introduced "Sorachi 1984" beer.

We encouraged customers to share their experiences with Sorachi using augmented reality (AR) devices along with the CraftChat bot.

—— What were your reasons to use CraftChat to acquire leads and engage with customers?

We regularly hold tasting events for our new products, but our interaction is limited to the day of the event with customers who are physically present. We see a lot of value in doing these product tastings events. We were looking for ways to engage and connect with our customer base and found CraftChat.

In the past, we have gathered feedback from customers using traditional questionnaires (online and offline). This time we wanted to engage with them in a more meaningful and interactive manner. We were able to set up scenarios to gather feedback and experiences using Facebook Messenger via CraftChat bot.

1st: Get  QR codes in front of the booth
2nd: Attempt the quiz in a conversational format
3rd: Get prizes for solving the quiz

Our goal is to enable one on one communication with customers.

— I think the beer festival and CraftChat are good combinations. Can you talk about the interesting use of the  AR Glasses in the project?

When the user scans the QR code, the Interactive Brewer chatbot would automatically respond and prompt you to put an AR glass inside the tent. We had some fun quizzes on the bot and users could gather hints using the AR glasses. It was an interesting mix of online and offline experiences.
We had positive engagement rates for our communications on The Active Brewer SECRET TAP 80% open rates, which is much better than what we get via mass mailers. Now we can send targeted notifications and information to our customer base in the future based on their interests and preferences.

— Can you please share what are your future plans regarding the use of technology to engage the user base?

I am a big fan of personalizing and customizing interactions with your customer base. We are also building products with more experiential consumption (Like building niche products for a smaller group of people who will like and appreciate it and will be very loyal), gathering customer feedback and opinion become even more important.
We are exploring ways to use CraftChat to communicate continuously and informally with our customer base.
